Relations Algeria - NATO
Algeria joined the Mediterranean Dialogue in March 2000.
It is a framework for consultation and cooperation bringing together the member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with partners from the southern shore of the Mediterranean.
Since joining the Mediterranean Dialogue, Algeria-NATO relations have made significant progress marked by the two official visits of the President of the Algerian Republic to NATO headquarters, in 2001 and 2002, and by the official visit of the Secretary General of NATO in Algeria in 2004, the first undertaken by a NATO SG in a Mediterranean Dialogue country.
The assessment of the cooperation between the two parties is considered satisfactory. Algeria participates, within the framework of this Dialogue, in cooperation activities with the Organization (meetings, seminars, training, stopovers and others) on issues of common interest.
Algeria also takes part in the sessions of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), in its capacity as a “regional partner and associated Mediterranean member”.
Moreover, and in line with the principle of enhanced individual cooperation, Algeria had its first Individual Partnership and Cooperation Program with NATO (IPCP) in October 2014, renewed twice, respectively in July 2018 and in April 2021.
