President Tebboune wraps up State visit to Portugal

President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune left Wednesday afternoon Portugal to return home after a State visit at the head of a large ministerial delegation.

The significant visit, which confirms the deep strategic relationship between the two countries, was marked by intense activity as President Tebboune started with a meeting of representatives of the Algerian community in Portugal.

During the meeting, the president of the Republic stressed the Algerian State's commitment to protect Algerians abroad, adding that the door was open for Algerian experts to contribute to the development of the country.

A solemn welcome was given to President Tebboune by his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the Empire Square (Praça do

Império).

The two leaders held one-on-one discussions at the headquarters of the presidency of the Portuguese Republic, which were subsequently extended to the delegations of the two countries.

The President of the Republic also visited the historical building of Lisbon's town hall, where he received the key to the city from the mayor.

The Portuguese President hosted a dinner in honour of President Tebboune, on the occasion of his State visit that was an opportunity to highlight the deep historical relationship between the two countries and the full convergence of views on regional and international issues.

During the dinner, the president of the Republic announced that an Algerian-Portuguese Summit would be held in the second half of 2023, and which will be a "pivotal year for the revival of major bilateral events."

On the last day of his visit, the president of the Republic chaired the opening of the Algerian-Portuguese Business Forum, and encouraged the businessmen of both countries to enhance economic partnership and take advantage of the great investment opportunities offered by the two nations to undertake joint investments, in the best interests of the two countries.

The President of the Republic paid a visit to the seat of the Portuguese Parliament in Lisbon, where he was welcomed by the speaker of this institution, Augusto Santos Silva.

During his State visit, President Tebboune co-chaired with Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, the signing ceremony of several agreements and memoranda of understanding (MOUs) on cooperation and partnership between the two countries in many sectors.
