President of the Republic’s message on National Mujaheed Day
The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent a message on the eve of the celebration of the National Mujaheed Day marking the double anniversary of the North Constantine Offensive and the Soummam Congress (20 August 1955-1956 respectively), translated by APS as follows:
"In the name of Allah, the Clement and Merciful,
Peace Be Upon Him,
Dear citizens,
The National Mujaheed Day we celebrate today marks the double anniversary of the North Constantine Offensive, on 20 August 1955, and the Soummam Congress on 20 August 1956, two memorable dates in the history of our glorious Liberation Revolution.
The North Constantine Offensive taught a lesson to the colonial army that believed it could stifle the people's Revolution with fire and iron, not to mention the immeasurable sacrifices and acts of bravery of these heroes who carried the Revolution and exalted the National Liberation Army.
On 20 August 1956, the Soummam Congress was held at a time when the Mujahideen (war veterans) fought with resistance and heroism in the bosom of the Algerian people, marking a major political and military turning point that demonstrated that the Algerian people would not bow to the tyranny of the colonial army power.
While we proudly recall the sacrifices of Shuhadas (war martyrs) and Mujahdideen (war veterans), we are convinced that the Algerians, with their deep-rooted loyalty to the November message, continue to watch over our dear Algeria and to preserve its security, stability and prosperity.
On this occasion, I join you in remembering the memory of our valiant Shuhadas and extend my warmest greetings to our sisters and brothers Mujahideen, whom I hold in the highest esteem.
Long life Algeria.”
Glory and eternity to our valorous Shuhadas".
