US strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities: Algeria expresses its deep concern and regret

Algeria expressed its deep concern and regret following the US strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities on Saturday evening, affirming that only a peaceful political approach based on the principles and rules of international legality and the United Nations Charter can spare the region further tensions and tragedies, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs on Sunday.

"At a time marked by international consensus on the search for ways to ease tensions in the region, the Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran experienced extremely serious developments last night, accentuating the escalation with the US strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities," the statement emphasized.

This international consensus "has always affirmed the need for a ceasefire, a return to the negotiating table, and a sincere and good-faith commitment to finding a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue," the statement added.

Algeria expresses "its deep concern and deep regret at this escalation, which worsens the situation in the region and exposes it to unprecedented risks with unpredictable consequences," the statement continued.

"The sensitivity and gravity of the situation require everyone to refer to the lessons of the region's history, which demonstrates, beyond any doubt, that military means have never been able to resolve the problems it has faced. Therefore, the absolute priority at the moment lies in returning to the most peaceful, effective and least costly approach, the peaceful political approach, based on the principles and rules of international legality and the Charter of the United Nations, which can spare the region further tensions and tragedies," the statement concluded.
