President Tebboune’s visit to Italy marks new chapter in historical ties, strategic partnership

The official visit paid by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the Italian Republic, a friendly country, marks a new milestone in consolidating historical ties uniting the two countries and reaffirming their shared commitment to move forward in strengthening their strategic partnership.
Co-chairing with the President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, the 5th High-Level Algerian-Italian Intergovernmental Summit, the President of the Republic emphasized that his visit to this country constituted “a new milestone in the exemplary relations between Algeria and Italy” and “an important step as part of the ongoing work and coordination to strengthen and expand the partnership between the two friendly countries.”
In this regard, he expressed confidence that the summit’s outcomes “open broad perspectives for the strategic and exemplary partnership between Algeria and Italy, truly reflecting the depth of historical relations and deep-rooted friendship ties between the two countries.”
In this respect, the President of the Republic reviewed Algeria’s economic achievements, qualifying Italy as “an essential and serious partner in accompanying Algeria’s ambitious economic momentum in service of their mutual interests.”
For her part, Meloni declared that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, enjoyed “great competence,” affirming that relations between Algeria and her country “continue to grow stronger.”
Regarding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, the President of the Italian Council of Ministers affirmed that her country “aspires to become a distribution hub for energy in Europe through the strategic partnership it is developing with Algeria.”
In fulfilling the bilateral economic aspirations based on their mutual interests, the official visit of the President of the Republic was crowned by the signing of several partnership agreements, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Sonatrach group and the Italian company ENI, MoUs in the fields of agriculture, fishing, food processing and aquaculture, a cinematographic co-production agreement and an agreement concerning mutual recognition of driving licenses.
The two parties also signed memorandums of understanding in the fields of postal services and telecommunications, protection and promotion of the rights of people with special needs, relief and firefighting, as well as search and rescue at sea.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Italian National Agency for Inward Investment and Economic Development (Invitalia) and the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), as well as a cooperation agreement on counter-terrorism and a joint declaration in the field of defense.
